Course Objectives

Spot abusive dating dynamics and guide teens toward safer choices. Grounded in trauma-informed practice, this course connects teen brain development, emotional regulation, and social influences with safety-planning skills.

  • Examine how teen brain development influences decision-making, emotional regulation, and relationship dynamics, particularly in the context of toxic relationships.

  • Recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships, peer pressure, and abusive dating relationships, including the role of social media in shaping adolescent experiences.

  • Utilize somatic-based techniques to empower teens to develop emotional awareness, regulate their nervous system, and establish healthy boundaries in relationships.

  • quip teens with tools to safely disengage from toxic relationships, strengthen self-advocacy skills, and cultivate positive peer connections for long-term emotional well-being.

Katie Tacchino, MA, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Katie Tacchino, MA, LPC, is a seasoned clinician and owner of Oak Counseling & Consulting, LLC in West Chester, PA. With degrees in research psychology (Saint Joseph's University, 2006) and clinical psychology (Immaculata University, 2010), she blends clinical expertise with a strong research foundation. Her diverse experience spans nonprofit work, corporate leadership development, and private practice. She has supported survivors of domestic violence, guided families and children, assisted new mothers through Postpartum Support International, and developed community outreach programs for West Chester Area YMCA as well as East Goshen Township. A member of Chi Sigma Iota and the American Counseling Association, Katie is dedicated to fostering holistic well-being through compassionate, evidence-based care.
