Course Objectives

Distinguish between normative and problematic sexual behaviors in children and youth. Learn how to respond through a developmentally informed, trauma-responsive, and legally sound approach.

  • Distinguish between normative, cautionary, and problematic sexual behaviors in children and adolescents across developmental stages.

  • Identify risk and protective factors associated with problematic sexual behaviors, including the influence of online behaviors and environmental stressors.

  • Increase understanding of the legal implications of problematic sexual behaviors in youth, including mandated reporting responsibilities and related considerations.

  • Apply appropriate responses, safety planning strategies, and supportive interventions for youth engaging in problematic sexual behaviors.
